The opening of the Pisciotta–Praja section (July 30, 1894) integrated Sapri into national connections, changing the scale of tourist and commercial flows.
The square has benefited from renewal works connected to the station–square context (RFI coordination).
Urban hub in front of Sapri Railway Station, inaugurated on July 30, 1894 with the opening of the Pisciotta–Praja section of the Tyrrhenian Southern line. The square hosts the War Memorial (1925) with an allegory of the Motherland, attributed to Gaetano Chiaromonte, and serves as the pedestrian gateway to the center and the seafront.
Why visit
To grasp in one place the relationship between the railway and Sapri’s urban growth, and to admire Chiaromonte’s War Memorial, a historical-artistic testimony of the city’s memory.
How to get there
Arriving by train: the square is in front of the station. From the seafront: about a 5-minute walk inland following the signs to the station.
